I am a Montreal artist. In times when development is constantly attacking the familiarity of the craftsmanship of city streets, i feel it is important to document what was.. as compared to what will be.
Don't get me wrong, change can be good...as long as it is accepting of the past, and the immense work and labor that built such a unique city as Montreal.
Lately i find myself, growling at development as it tears down unique architecture and leaves behind brick boxes with no aesthetic value.
It surprises me that Montreal, in all its efforts to maintain its culture, has forgotten the most important part. Its architectural heritage..
For an artist, or a photographer, this is sad... Those intriguing little details are really what it is all about for me...painting the lives of the working people, day to day as they emerge from their little interesting streets with diversely designed buildings.. This is truly what the city is all about..
I hope you...
