Demonstration No. 1

I've always appreciated online demonstrations of painters I admire. While it's a little presumptious that what I'm about to attempt here will measure up to what those artists do, I thought it might be fun, especially for those wonderful folk who have taken an interest in my work. Also, back when I taught painting at Tulane and Florida International University, eons ago, I learned that the best way to figure out what you really know about painting is to try and teach it to somebody else.

Step. 1: The drawing.
This is a pencil drawing on a Strathmore drawing pad -- nothing too exotic. The drawing is based on thumbnails I sketched out on the corner of notebooks pages and napkins which if I can find them, I'll post at a later date, but the details are drawn from a number of photographs I took last year during a stormy period at Long Beach, New York, about twenty minutes or so from where I live. As others before me have pointed out, photographs are not the best way to gather information, but they can certainly help, especially if you aren't able to spend long hours on site.
