About the Artist

A photographer for over 35 years, since graduating from the School of Photography in Birmingham. I began my professional career as a photo-journalist, from which I entered the world of advertising photography. In 1990, I became co-director, picture editor and photographer in a stock, photo agency.

At the turn of the millennium I established a new agency but sold it a few years later to begin photography workshops. These have recently ended to allow me to concentrate on my own projects, in which the emphasis will be on a more art based approach to my photography. Subjects will range from landscape to still-life and all points between.

I tutor occasionally at The Art Hand, local workshops strongly geared to all genres of the arts, and I also work with GuruShots, giving on-line photography critiques.

My attitude to “art photography” is somewhat enigmatic.

During my time as picture editor I encountered many ‘art photographers’. More often than not, they were egotistical and delusional in equal measure, labouring under the impression that by describing their work as 'Art Photography' it would somehow raise it to a higher level; when the reality was that all too often their photography was banal, trite and boring!

So with a healthy dose of cynicism I decided that it would be an ideal opportunity to find out about art photography. Whether my photography will measure up as 'Art Photography’ be down to YOU, because it's your views that count.

Either way, it is a challeging and enjoyable project to look forward to.
