Stewart Forrest is a contemporary Australian artist currently based in Scandinavia.
Being the son of an artist, he grew up in a creative environment and was naturally drawing and playing with colours from a very young age.
At the age of 6, his mother endeavoured, with him and his sister on a 3 month backpacking tour, exposing them to the art, culture and national galleries of Europe.
These early influences were the foundation of an appreciation for classical techniques and an inquisative passion for experimenting with paints.
He currently works primarily in oils, using classical art theories together with an array of contemporary and classical techniques. His dedication to the art of painting is evident in his work, with collections of varying style and theme that, as a body of work, draw lines between fundamental workings of nature and the complexities of the human condition.
I have long been driven by the relationships between the world we can see and touch, and the ideas we conceive about it; that which is tangible and the concepts enveloping it; the fundamental patterns and equations of nature and the roles they play in defining our lives.
There are always questions, and the possible answers are what I produce. No one technique satisfies the diversity of my thinking. And so, I extend my experience and skills into "unknowns", using styles and techniques that are intended to either keep me in control or surrender themselves to the laws of nature. Thereby satisfying the curious question, "what if". The doors that open, the visions and ideas that evolve, are not final, but open themselves into future possibilities. Life's variety has no conclusion, it keeps unraveling. We think we've reached the center, then realize that we merely scratched the surface!"
