About the Artist

Discussing Victoria Selbachs work, Pat Rogers writes, “The paintings capture the beauty of the body cloaked in shadow and layers of light. Angles created by the body’s position, or by slashing shadows, feature prominently. The patterns and visuals created are important compositional elements. So is the implied narrative, the situation and the imagined life of the subject.”

In each painting I capture one moment in time by simply allowing the light to create compositions, outlining shape and form within the confines of the canvas. As light plays within the geometry and architecture of the moment it moves over planes and disappears into darkness, alternately revealing and masking the human form. The moment comes alive as the light penetrates the subject, illuminating the spirit within, revealing the layers of color, complexity and emotion deep beneath the surface.
